Director, Co-owner & Social Media Creator

The Barratt Family - Steph Voce

Hi! I’m Steph, and as you might already know, I actually started out my journey here as a Boom Buddy!

I am a first-time mum to Rose, who is now three and currently obsessed with Moana, dinosaurs, and being outside. Me and my partner, Jason, have been together for almost seven years and are officially getting married this July! Every bit of spare time right now is a whirlwind of final wedding planning. Day-to-day, I also work in a very busy pharmacy, so I completely understand the beautiful, chaotic juggle of balancing parenthood with work life.

My love for the Boom community runs so deep, which is why taking over the business and celebrating our 1-year anniversary of ownership this July—alongside Boom’s incredible 10th anniversary—means the absolute world to me.

Now, as co-owner and director alongside Jess, I am right at the heart of everything we do! Together, we work hand-in-hand to run the magazine, manage our website, and bring our popular Boom Events to life—from our creative workshops to our community awards. I also head up our social media channels as our main creator, capturing all the fun behind the scenes. We have some incredibly exciting things planned as we expand across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, and I can't wait to watch this wonderful community grow even more!

Boom Buddies & Toddler Friendly Explorers

The Linford's

Hi! 👋 I’m Jess, and together with my fiancé Sam, our little boy Flynn, and our cockapoo Bobby, we are The Linford Family.

We’ve been together for 9 wonderful years and are officially getting married in July 2027 - although Sam genuinely thought it was 10 when we booked the venue! 😂 As a family, we love going on sunny holidays and city breaks, and we’re super excited for lots of camping adventures soon after buying a full setup of gear.

Alongside family life and wedding prep, when I get a quiet moment, I love settling down with a good book, but day-to-day I’m mostly powered by iced lattes to get me through toddler life. As an easily overstimulated mumma with ADHD, we have pretty much banned modern kids' shows like Miss Rachel, Paw Patrol, and Peppa Pig. Instead, Flynn is being brought up on the gentle, classic 90s versions of Toy Story, Bob the Builder, and old-school Fireman Sam, which is a total lifesaver for our screen time.

Boom has been a part of my life from the very beginning, stemming back to when it first started while I was working in a Belper nursery. From following its journey to eventually running it, Boom has always had a special place in my heart. Due to my recent job change, I had to take a step back as co-owner and director alongside Steph, who has now taken this on solely with our family standing right behind her and wishing her all the best.

Becoming a first-time mummy to Flynn gave me an even deeper passion for everything this community stands for, so I couldn't leave entirely! I’m still right here as a dedicated Boom Buddy. We love testing out local family spots across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire - from days out and restaurants to sharing easy play ideas to do at home - and continuing to cheer on all the amazing small businesses and families in our area.

We are so excited to stay connected with this incredible community, and you can follow along with all of our ongoing family adventures over on Instagram and TikTok!

Let's be Frank Crew

Hello, we’re Abi and Franklin! We live in Derbyshire and love going on adventures together, locally and beyond!

Most weekends you’ll find us exploring — from local farms and play cafés to muddy countryside walks in our wellies. We love discovering new places together and believe some of the best family memories are made on simple days out, fresh air, and a bit of spontaneity.

I’m a part-time mental health nurse for the NHS, but my main (and favourite) role is being Franklin’s mum and making new memories with him — whether that’s little adventures close to home or exploring further afield around the world.

I share our toddler-friendly days out on our social media page Let’s be Frank, where we rate activities from Franklin’s perspective to help other families find fun, stress-free places to visit with little ones.

As Boom Buddies, we’re excited to share our favourite local finds and family adventures. You can follow along at @letsbefrank 👣

Boom Buddies & Blended Family Lifestyle Reviewers

The Hardy Family

We're the Hardy family - a blended bunch of six with a love for adventure and a touch of chaos (the good kind!). I'm Hayley - a neurodivergent, first-time mum to our curious, cheeky 3 year old Aurora, and bonus mum to our amazing 16 year-old Summer, who we co-parent. My husband, Paul, is my partner-in-crime in all things parenting, DIY, and keeping the peace between our furry kids: Babou, the regal 7-year-old Ragdoll, and Einstein, the bouncy 5-year-old Labradoodle.
When we're not working, we're out making memories - wandering to Elvaston Castle (practically in our backyard!), running wild at the park, visiting the farm, or saying hello to every animal at the zoo. Our mission? Give the girls as many magical experiences as possible and soak up every moment together.
We can't wait to be part of Boom and share the Hardy happiness!

The Watkiss Family

We're the Watkiss family, Elle, Will and our daughter Lily who is just about to turn two! We also have a rescue dog named Ava and a cat called Dottie. Lily was born 10 weeks premature and spent her first few weeks in NICU, so her start in life wasn't easy, however she is now thriving and it's been incredible to watch her grow and develop.
We're excited to be part of this community as we love discovering new family days out, introducing Lily to new experiences, and finding pram-friendly dog walks to enjoy together. I (Elle) grew up in Derbyshire, and since moving back a year ago, we've really enjoyed making new memories here as a family.

The Adamson Family

Hi, we’re the Adamson family and we are very excited to be continuing to work with Boom!
Lewis and I (Hannah) welcomed Lucy into the world in May 2023 and are also the proud owners of Jemima Puddledog, our 5 year old mixed breed dog.
We love being out and about, giving Lucy as many different experiences as possible and like it even more if Jemima can come along too. Lewis and I are the sort of people who will try anything once, although indoor skydiving turned out not to be for me! So far, Lucy seems to be following suit, throwing herself into every experience we have given her quite literally at times, as she has no fear and is incredibly active!)
Outside of family life, I am a primary school teacher (and a Brownie leader in my spare time) and Lewis is a commercial solicitor, so we both have hectic jobs that keep us busy. Consequently, family time is incredibly important to us and we want to squeeze the most out of the time we have together.
We’re looking forward to continuing to share our adventures with you as Boom Buddies!

The Shawver Family

Hi, we're the Shawver family from Alfreton!
I'm Kim and am originally from Leicestershire, and my husband Jay is from the USA, so we celebrate UK and USA holidays! Emerson, is 2 and loves all things music (he gets that from his dad!), animals, getting outdoors with us and our two dogs (Alfie and Kash), and experiencing new things and places. Rowan is our recent addition in June and is very chilled and enjoys going with our flow!
We love getting out for walks, exploring the woods, seeing animals, eating good food and drinking hot chocolate.
We can't wait to support Boom with great days out we can share. I'm also an avid baker and love cooking homemade meals and can't wait to do more of this with our boys!

Interesting fact: we went through a lot of treatment and three rounds of IVF before naturally having our boys, so I try to do as much as I can to raise awareness of infertility by sharing our story.

The Collis Murray Family

Hi we're Stacey, James, Isabella (age 7) and Isla (age 1) and we live in Belper in Derbyshire. Stacey is originally from London and moved up to Derbyshire in 2012 to retrain at Derby University. James grew up in Belper and after many years in Derby was tempted back home when Isabella joined the gang.
We absolutely love being outside so being so close to the Peak District is perfect for us. We all enjoy a family walk so we get out exploring as often as we can, and Isabella can usually be found climbing something. She's definitely the fearless one in the family! James works as a software developer, is a drummer in a local community band and is also currently learning piano, and Stacey runs creative sessions to support mental health and wellbeing and is an Independent Travel Agent. We're really excited to be working with Boom and are looking forward to sharing some of our adventures with you.

The P Family

Hello, we are the P family! We live in Derbyshire with our two daughters; 1 years old & 3 years old.

We love to travel, visit new places, and be out in nature together, embracing each season. I enjoy growing pretty flowers and produce in our garden and we also have some chickens. I love to cook and bake and Mr P enjoys DIY. We have been doing up our 'fixer upper' house for the last few years with lots still to do!

I used to be a Primary School teacher but for now I'm a stay-at-home mum and Mr P's job involves fixing trains. As Boom Buddies we enjoy sharing our family life and adventures.

Boom Buddies & Active Family Explorers

The Collins Crew

We're a family of four living in Ripley—two grown-ups, one energetic toddler, and our lovable German Shepherd who's six but still acts like a big baby! Both my husband and I work in Nottinghamshire schools, so life can get pretty busy. When we're not working, we're all about exploring, trying new things, and spending quality time together. Whether it's a walk in the woods, a spontaneous day out, or just a cozy evening at home, we love making memories as a family. Cooking and baking are our go-to ways to unwind. We often turn dinner time into a mini event—everyone gets involved, even our little one with his enthusiastic stirring and sprinkling! It's messy, fun, and full of laughter. We're also big football fans and love kicking a ball around or watching a match together. For us, family time is everything. With demanding jobs, planning something fun helps us relax and reconnect. It doesn't have to be fancy, just something that brings us together. We're always up for a new adventure, and we believe the best moments are the ones shared with the people you love most.

Boom Buddies & Multi-Age Family Reviewers

The Tiddlekicks Crew

Hey there! We are the Tiddlekicks family! I'm Kendall, Mum of 3 girls! Ensley- 2, Elise- 11 and Esmae- 14. I also run a small local business 'Tiddlekicks' hence the family name!

We have busy working lives, and the older girls spend a lot of time at clubs and doing their hobbies, so when we get spare time we love to explore! Theme parks are a huge hit in our family (the kids are adrenaline junkies- I am not). Family holidays and family time is precious, so we love making memories whenever and wherever we can! Having baby number 3 has meant that Ensley and I can experience all the fabulous things locally for under 5's too, so you will probably see us around!

As boom buddies we hope to take you on our adventures with us and try new things so you know what to expect when you go!

Boom Buddy & Family Community Ambassador

The Marriott/Fallon Family

Hi, I’m Hannah and I run Baby Sparks Derby West 💜💙💚
As a children’s activity provider, I know first-hand the challenges of running classes. I’m also a mum of two – Blake (4) and Rory (nearly 2) – and we absolutely love going for walks, splashing in puddles, exploring nature, heading to the zoo…the list goes on!

I’m also expecting baby number three, which means I’ll soon be right back in the world of baby classes again.

That’s why I’d love to support other activity providers by sharing honest, unbiased reviews of their sessions. Not only does this help small businesses like mine, but it also gives parents genuine insight into the wonderful classes and days out available for their little ones.

"At Denby Pottery Village, we have a range of family friendly activities throughout the year and advertising in Boom Magazine gives us the chance to let local families know what activities and events would be interesting to them.
The Facebook posts are a great ‘up to the minute’ way of letting people know what we are doing, plus the ‘what’s on section’ is great for a round up of current things to do in the area."
